This opens the Import window.
There are 268 files in this directory. If you right click on a file a menu will pop up with options to Run or Import. You can also select the Properties option to get the File properties dialog.
If you select Run, the file is executed. If the file is an executable file, .exe, then it is executed directly. If it is a non-executable file, such as a .zip, .tar, .html, etc. the file will be opened in whatever program is associated with it. For example if you attempt to "Run" a .html file, Vordur will open the file in your default browser, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera or whatever other browser is your default browser.
If you select Import, a new window pops up.
Here you must select which group and which owner you want to use for this file. The Install Group and Owner are required and you must select something from the drop down lists.
You do not need to select a Producer. If you check the "Use Version Information" Vordur will try to retrieve information about the Producer from the install program version information. This generally works for .exe files because they generally include version information. However, this information is not always correct in install programs, so be prepared to go through your newly imported file or files and check the producer information.
You can also select if you want to construct the product name from the Filename or from the Version information. Version information sometimes contains wrong information about the product name, sometimes it simply contains the name of the product that was used to create the install. In that case you could end up with multiple installs with the same product name. The filename of an install is usually somewhat descriptive and we have found that it generally works pretty well.
When you click the Start button a progress bar will show the progress of the import process. When the import is done, the Start button is disabled. If everything imported correctly a green checkmark will show up next to the filename.
When you have selected the Group and Owner and either selected a producer or checked "Use Version Information" the Start button will be enabled. Click on the Start button to start the import process.
Now open the Installs window and it should look something like this.
Note that the new file was imported as a new product. Also notice that the program created a product name called "Vordur Install" from the filename of VordurInstall.exe. The available information about the selected install on the left, is displayed in the tree on the right. To open the Update window for that install, click the "Edit" button.
