On this window you can update any information about the Install. This window has several tabs:

Owner

Install File

Description

Owner

The owner section of the Update Installs window contains information about who owns the software, what Install group it belongs to etc.

update install - owner
·You must select an Product for the install. It is required information. If the product does not exist, you can create it by typing the name of the product. Once you accept the entry, the Update Product window will appear so you can add further information about the product.
·Producer is tied to the product and is updated when the product is selected.
·Install name is required. You could use a name that indicates the product name and version, for example "Vordur 1.6" or "PaintShop Pro 8.0"
·You can enter a value for Maximum users for software that are user limited.
·Registered owner is selected from the list of owners. You can enter the name of the new owner here and the Update Owner window will appear.
·You can enter a Owner name instead of, or in addition to, selecting an Owner. This could for example be useful if the install keycode is based on the name and it is case sensitive and the name is spelled differently than the Owner that you have entered into the list of owners in Vordur. An example would be if you had "John Smith" entered as an owner, but John accidentally entered his name as JOHN SMITH while ordering some software. Then you could select "John Smith" as the owner, and then type in JOHN SMITH into the Owner field.
·The Company field can be used if the software uses the company name as part of the keycode.
·Serial number can be used for serial numbers or keys up to 100 characters long.
·The Path To the Install file should normally be selected by clicking on the selection button to the right of the field. If the Install that you want to add is on a CD, DVD or diskette, you should not put the actual path in here, but rather a name of the media that it is on. For example, if you have an old install of Microsoft® Windows 98, then you should just enter: "Microsoft Windows 98" into the path. That way you can enter the serial number and other information that you want to keep. Try not to use backslash ( \ ) in the name that you put in there. When Vordur checks the installs it looks for \ in the Setup path and if it does not find it, Vordur presume that it is not a setup file and skips over it. If you put a \ in the path name, Vordur will attempt to locate the file and fail, and report it.
·The File Properties button can be used to open the standard File Properties window
·The Select button next to the "Path To the Install file" entry can be used to select the file.
·The Run button below the Select button can be used to run the Install file.

Download
The Download section contains information about where and how the install was downloaded. This section also has a list of additional information that can be useful to store information that has no dedicated place in Vordur.

update install - download
·Download login is used if you downloaded this from a website where you had get authorized login for. See the example window below taken from Internet Explorer 6.0.
·Download password is also used for authorized logins.

update install - login information
·Install Password is used during the installation process. It depends entirely on how the setup is built if there is a password on it or not. Install software makers may also call this keycode or registration. The meaning is the same. If the install password is not entered correctly the setup program will stop and the setup process can not be completed.
·You can enter the date when the install was Last Downloaded. Click the button to the right of the field to access a calendar window. Simply click on the date you want to use. To close the calendar without selecting a data, click the Close button.

calendar
·Version Information can be used to put in version information. If the file is an .exe file then it would be appropriate to use the version information in the File Version section. If the file is not an .exe, then it would be appropriate to use this field.
·Check if Install file Exists at Startup is used to determine if the file should be checked when Vordur run the Check Installs process. Uncheck this if you do not want this file checked.
·Download URL is the path on the internet where you downloaded the install from. This of course only applies if the install file was downloaded. Click the button to the right of the field to open the URL in your default browser.
·Additional Information can be used to hold any additional information. Click the New button to add information. See the Update Additional Information topic for more information.

Install File

The Install File section shows the File Version information that was retrieved during the import. If you want to refresh the information, click the Refresh button.

update install - fileversion
This window also gives you an option to specify a program to open the actual install file with. Some products use proprietary programs to pack the products in. Or you may need a tool to unzip an install that is delivered as a ZIP file. This allows you to do that.

If you check the Open with Associated Program Vordur will try to open the file with the associated program. For example if it is a ZIP file, then whatever program you have associated with ZIP files will be used to open the install file.

Program To Open Install is only enabled if you do not check the Open with Associated Program. In this case you need to click the Select button to the right to select the program to use.

Program Parameters is used to specify additional parameters for the selected program or the associated program. If you right click on the entry field, you get a popup menu where you can select "macros" to insert. This can be the Install File and the Password, which is the "Install Password" on the Download section.

If you select the "Install File" it will put %InstallFile% into the field. If you select "Password" it will put %FilePassword% into the field. Click the button to the right of the entry field to see how the parameter list is built up.

Producer

The Producer section contains information about the how to contact the Producer and also shows information from the Producer list directly.

update install - producer

·Web Site is a product specific website that only relates to this particular install.
·Email is product specific email that you can use to put in contact email for this product only if necessary.

The information on the Internet and Address tabs are retrieved from the Producer information and can not be updated on this window. In other words, they are here for display only.

Note that the links on the left of the entries can be used as regular internet links. Click on the links to go to websites or send emails.

Description

The Description section allows you to write up formatted text (RTF - Rich Text Format) about the product.

update install - description
The description holds a maximum of 5,000 (five thousand) characters.

Registration

The Registration section is meant to be a place where you can for example copy and paste in emails that you receive with registration information. That way you do not need to go hunt in your email software if you need to see what the vendor sent you.

update install - registration

The Registration holds a maximum of 10,000 (ten thousand) characters. This is excellent to use in cases like shown in the screenshot where a long key is used to unlock a product.
